November 2- 6th is Obesity week. As we approach the holiday season and round up our Halloween festivities I think it is especially important to talk about struggles that we all face with obesity this time of year.
During obesity week I wanted to have an open dialogue with everyone on obesity and the struggles many face on a day to day basis. I also wanted to highlight that we are here for you. As a registered Dietitian who specializes in weight loss management, I wanted to take the time to say that we know that it is difficult and yes, obesity is a disease. One that can lead to a host of metabolic ailments.
As a society we should focus on the disease and helping people overcome this disease. Overcoming obesity is not just an idea of stopping what you are eating. It is working on behavior change as well as diet and lifestyle factors that influence our weight. Looking at the whole picture can help us combat this disease.
