Dr. Salvatore M. Buffa joined our practice in 1995. He completed his internship, residency and gastroenterology/hepatology fellowship at Presbyterian Medical Center in Philadelphia. He then went on to complete a fellowship in advanced therapeutic endoscopy at Jefferson University Hospital.
Dr. Buffa was raised in Westchester County and received his undergraduate premedical degree from Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. He graduated medical school from St. George’s University School of Medicine before embarking on his postgraduate training in Pennsylvania.
In addition to his busy gastroenterology practice, Dr. Buffa is very active in hospital and educational activities in the community. He currently is the Chief of Gastroenterology and Assistant Chief of Medicine at VBMC. He has served on many leadership committees at both VBMC and St. Francis Hospitals, and is Vice President of the Mid-Hudson Gut Club which offers a quarterly lecture series for local gastroenterologists to assist in providing educational material on the newest treatments in his field. He also serves as a board member for Premier Cares Foundation, which provides local support for patients suffering from colon and prostate diseases.
Dr. Buffa treats all GI issues including GERD, ulcer disease, celiac disease as well as biliary and bowel disorders and liver disease, but truly enjoys interacting with this patients while trying to make them feel as comfortable as possible.
